Making Money as a Web Designer

Making Money as a Web Designer

There are many individuals that design websites for others. As a web designer, they have the unique task of developing ideas for a website. They must take that idea and translate it into unique and visual art. As a result, many individuals that make a living as a web designer are true artists.

Making a living as a web designer is a relatively new occupation. Generally speaking, web design did not exist 20 years ago. However, today an occupation as a web designer is turned into one of the more coveted and popular jobs in the fields of artistry and technology.

Types of Occupations

Individuals that perform web design either do it in unison with other members on the design team, or they act as a freelancer, continually seeking work and jobs. Regardless of how they choose to enter the employment field, there are two specific kinds of designers. The first are referred to as virtual designers. It is their duty to conceptualize the creative idea of how the website will appear, and then design it to function as a site.

They often use the assistance of some specific type of art program, which could include Adobe Photoshop.

The second kind of designer is a programmer. It is the design programmer that can translate the design idea into Internet code or language, including HTML and others. This is required because every Internet browser including Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer does not have the capacity to read designs or images, but only HTML code. It is the code itself that will instruct every web browser to display the creative design.

In fairness, there is actually a third type of web designer. These individuals blend both the technical aspect of programming and the visual arts of creative design. These types of individuals that have the capacity to perform both duties are in high demand.

Their Function

The specific function of the web designer is to develop and create pages for websites and blogs that have the ability to relay information through a variety of media. Quite similar to an art director in a photo shoot or magazine, a web designer must have the ability to create a site design that can fully convey the sites intended content.

An individual that is successful in web design is the one that can create pages that are extremely usable yet visually stimulating. To do that requires skill. The design must allow the user to interact with the website or blogging page in a way that will not interfere with the content.

The Misconceptions

There is a serious misconception about making a living as a web designer, in that it is a job that nearly anyone could perform. While it may be true that with the right software anyone can create a basic design, it actually takes specific talent to be an effective and creative web designer.

With skillful training, and a high level of talent, web designers have the ability to design and create functional, clever sites from scratch.

Have a Passion? Turn It Into a Blog!

Have a Passion?  Turn It Into a Blog!

Blogging can not only be great fun, but it can also be a source of income. All you really need to start a blog is a passion about something, along with  the desire to share that passion with others. Blogging simply entails writing regular short articles, called blog posts, that share some aspect of your subject. If you post regularly, other people with the same passion will find your blog and become regular readers.

Want an example?  Okay. Let’s say that your passion is autograph collecting. Perhaps you have hundreds, maybe even thousands of autographs. What a great subject for a blog! You could name your blog something like “Autograph Collectors Anonymous” or “Ye Olde Autograph Collector.”  Be sure to actually name the subject in your blog title so that the search engines can list it for others to find.

Try writing a blog post once or twice a week that details how you got your autographs. One post could equal one autograph. For instance, maybe you have an old time movie star’s autograph — someone like Cary Grant. Tell the story about how you happened to be seated next to him on a flight from New York to Los Angeles — describe what he was like. Put his photo and a photo his autograph on the blog and invite others to comment.

Then add another blog post. This one might be about how you tracked down a rock star — say someone like George Harrison. Describe how you saw him in the audience at a concert and had to use a lot of tricks of the trade to get by security in order to get his autograph.  Include a photo from the concert, a photo of the singer, and a photo of the autograph.

As long as you make regular entries, people will find you become regular followers. In the meantime, how might you make some money with your blog?

One suggestion would be by adding links to merchandise being sold on Amazon.  You might have a link to a book about Cary Grant with a second link to an Amazon page offering an assortment of his movies for sale. In the case of a rock star, you might include links to posters, recordings and books. There are all kinds of opportunities.

Some bloggers even write their own books. If your autograph collection is extensive you might write an e-book that explains all that has gone into your collection over the years. You might even reveal a few trade secrets about how you have gotten autographs that are really hard to get.  Let your potential customers know these are secrets you will not be sharing anywhere else.

Another possibility for making money on your blog is by adding Google’s Adsense ads. These are the little two and three line ads that you often see in Internet articles. Google will pay you a predetermined amount each time one of your readers clicks on an Adsense ad.

If you have a passion, why not blog about it?  No matter how strange your hobby or passion may be — there are others out there who will definitely be interested in it.  So get to work and start blogging!

Five Strategies For Effective Blogging

If you are new to blogging you might think it is an easy task but the reality is that 90% of blogs end up in the cyberspace junk yard. A lot of bloggers find it hard to think of topics to write about, and so do not post regularly enough to attract visitors. In the current search engine landscape this is suicide; fresh content of high quality is what counts today, and without this you have little chance of success. Some bloggers, however, are comfortable writing daily posts and a few of us even post more than once a day.

The more you quality content you can write the better your work will be perceived. Engaging your readers is also important if you want to build a relationship with them, so to be effective, you must add fresh, quality content on a regular basis. In this article we will examine five key strategies which can help make blogging efforts easy.

1.Plan ahead. Write your content ahead of time and save it in a folder ready for publishing at some point in the future. WordPress users have the ability to schedule posts for future release, so this can be a very efficient way of creating content. If materiel is written in one sitting it can then be dripped into the blog over a period of time – for example a week.

2.Write about as wide a range of topics related to your niche as you can. Look at other blogs, social media sites and subscribe to Google Alerts for trending subjects. Doing this will give your visitors fresh content that is also current, which can be a great way of establishing authority in a niche. It will also mean that you will not run out of ideas on subjects to write about.

3.Ask for comments from your visitors that relate to the specific post they are viewing. This is a great way of adding extra unique content to each post and the more interaction you can encourage the more visitors will be tempted to comment in response. A touch of controversy is usually a great tactic for sparking a discussion.

4.Use sites like Yahoo Answers to research the sort of questions real people are asking, and give the visitor a solution to the problem in your blog posts. Social media sites are also a good source of relevant information on subjects that people are interested in.

5.If you are really stuck for inspiration, try using PLR content. While this is not ideal, and frequently needs to be rewritten, it often gives information you may not otherwise know. Be sure to customize it to make it unique and break it up into the kind of post you would actually write yourself for originality and credibility.

By harnessing these five tactics you can write your posts easily and reap the reward of having original, quality materiel that your visitors will like and respond to. The more you post, the better your blog will rank in the search engines and consequently the more traffic you will attract to your blog.

Results of Asbestos Exposure Are Devastating – Mesothelioma Law Firm

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported in 2009 that 18,068 Americans died of mesothelioma from 1999 through 2005, an average of about 3,000 patients per year. According to estimates, another 1,500 die annually from asbestosis, while the number of asbestos-related lung cancer deaths has been set as high as 8,000 per year.

The toll continues to climb. A former assistant U.S. surgeon general, Dr. Richard Lemen, told the U.S. Senate in 2007 that another 270,000 to 330,000 deaths are expected to occur over the next 30 years.

Often, asbestos victims are those who can least afford the expensive medical treatment required to fight the disease. For instance, the construction and maintenance industries account for thousands of patients. Asbestos-related diseases often deprive families of financial security during retirement years, even though many of the companies that manufactured, distributed, and used asbestos continue to profit.

Choosing a Mesothelioma Lawyer

For those diagnosed with mesothelioma, hiring an established lawyer marks the crucial first step toward holding companies accountable and seeking compensation for the damages caused by asbestos exposure.
//pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
Choosing a mesothelioma lawyer is a very personal decision. The ideal lawyer is not only equipped with resources and experience necessary to get you the compensation you deserve but also is responsive to your needs, empathetic to your unique medical situation, and wholly invested in your family’s future.
Before partnering with a lawyer, it’s important to ask questions to help you determine if he or she is experienced enough to take your case. These may include:
How knowledgeable are you about the different options for seeking compensation?
What is your track record with trust fund claims and mesothelioma lawsuits?*
Can you be easily reached to answer questions I may have during the process?
Do you have the resources needed to make my cases successful?

You’ll find few lawyers can surpass the experience, resources, and compassionate legal help that Weitz & Luxenberg attorneys have provided asbestos victims for more than 30 years. With 33,000 asbestos cases under our belt, we’re ready to help even more families seek justice.

Business Phone Systems

business phone systems pbx
If you’ve just begun researching phone solutions for your business, you may have come across the acronym PBX, which stands for Private Branch Exchange. Wondering what it means? We’re here to help.

PBX is simply a term meaning business-grade phone system. Business phone systems offer key voice features that companies need to run daily operations. Such features include: extension dialing, business hour settings to route calls off hours, customer waiting queues, music on hold, and call conferencing. Residential telephone lines and cell phone services do not offer these features, which, in short, connect people at work.

PBXes come in a wide variety, although most today are digital and leverage the Internet to send voice and video communications. Below is a quick run-down of the types of PBXs available today. We will start by explaining the oldest PBX— analog PBX. We do not recommend this for any modern day business; however, you may find the explanation helpful if you currently have an analog PBX.
Traditional Analog PBX Phone System

These systems have been around for a long time and connect to the Public Switch Telephone Network (PSTN) over Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS) lines. The PBX manages calls between phones and fax machines by being physically connected to them over copper wiring. Incoming calls are routed through the PBX and out to the phones, and calls can be transferred between phones via the PBX. The PBX itself typically lives in an office’s telecom closet. The Hybrid (IP-TDM) platform supports up to 128 analog trunks Source
//pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); The key to an analog PBX is that it connects to POTS lines that pre-date the Internet. These systems are not capable of many modern-day phone system features, such as voicemail-to-email, and they cannot deliver high definition voice calls.
On Premise IP PBX or VoIP PBX

With the gradual replacement of copper lines with broadband Internet, Internet Protocol (IP) PBXs are the most common systems used in enterprises. Although it is still possible to purchase analog systems, it is certainly not desirable as they are not expandable or upgradeable. They require adapters in order to work with VoIP or other digital hardware.

An IP PBX delivers voice calls over the Internet, otherwise known as VoIP. A premise-based IP PBX is a VoIP-based phone system that is housed within the office, also typically in a telecom closet. (It looks like a server with a bunch of wires.) Instead of physically connecting to the PBX with copper wiring, phones connect to the PBX over an office’s Local Area Network (LAN), often leveraging the same Internet connectivity that your office computers do.

Because they leverage the Internet, IP PBXs are capable of high definition audio and many other sophisticated PBX features, such as call queuing, flexible business hour rules, and application integration, interchanging with other unified communications and CRM platforms.

Quite a few enterprises use on premise IP PBX systems. But beyond the office’s PBX and LAN, there’s one more component to make the phones work: Primary Rate Interfaces (PRIs) or SIP Trunking service. These are services a business can buy to connect their on premise IP PBX to the Public Switched Telephone Network. That way, the business can make calls to and from their office to the outside world.

If you haven’t gathered yet, to maintain an on-premise IP PBX, you will need the help of an IT professional. The costs associated to an on-premise IP PBX include: equipment (PBX and phones), SIP Trunking or PRI service, and the IT professional’s time to deploy and maintain the phone system.
Hosted PBX or “Cloud Phone System”
//pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); A hosted PBX (or Virtual PBX) service takes the phone system out of your telecom closet and puts it “in the cloud.” In other words, hosted PBX is a VoIP-based PBX that is maintained by a service provider and allows businesses to connect to it over the public Internet. For the customer, this eliminates PBX maintenance costs, the hassle of upgrading PBX software, and service downtime, because all these issues are handled by the service provider.Hosted PBX phone system services reduce costs by maintaining all the phone system hardware offsite

The hallmark of this approach is low upfront capital expenditure, making it often the best fit for small and medium sized businesses. Most hosted PBX providers do not require customers to purchase any equipment beyond IP phones. In case you were wondering, the SIP Trunking service (connectivity to the PSTN) is also handled by the hosted PBX provider— If you make a phone call via a hosted PBX provider, the call will travel over the Internet to the provider, and then back out to the PSTN.

Many hosted PBX providers offer browser-based administrative portals that give account owners full control over how the phone service is used in the office. Customers can add phones, extensions, users, and applications (such as Music on Hold and ACD queues) easily with a few mouse clicks.

Vanderbilt University

1 Best Colleges for Education in America

Sophomore: Vanderbilt is an excellent place to continue your education. It is easy to find your place at this school because the environment is amazingly friendly and welcoming. Greek life is huge here and many people get involved. The weather is usually mild and the faculty is great. The food is ranked in the country, and as a sophomore, I still enjoy it. Anchor Down! This school is not without flaws, however. The campus is pretty divided racially. There is no malice, but it is clear that intermingling between races only truly occurs in the classroom. That is one thing this school could improve.

3 Best Colleges for Education in America

College Freshman: Professors, even in large lecture classes, are always approachable and friendly. They are open to extensions when asked and even small talk. However, with the amount of time you have with each professor (this also depends on the size of the class) it’s unlikely for you to become very friendly with any teachers throughout college unless you take initiative.

Classes can range from 7 people to 200. There are a variety of options, usually intro classes are big while seminars, language classes, and specific topic classes are smaller. With large classes there is an immense amount of TAs that are always available to help. They also run review/discussion sections to allow students to ask specific questions and get advice from experts who already aced the class.

Most classes, in the humanities, make you do a lot of reading, have a smaller discussion section, and then 2-4 big assignments like midterms, finals, essays, take home exams, etc.

The variety of courses speaks for itself. There are too many choices and they are all interesting!

4 Best Colleges for Education in America

Freshman: One semester into Swarthmore and I feel as if I am a completely different person. I have just grown so much here and been forced to think in ways that are much different than the ways high school necessitated from me. I discovered that I am actually more of an extrovert and less of an introvert; This epiphany dawned upon me after the realization that I could, at Swarthmore, engage in deep and lengthy conversations with other students. While individual achievement was emphasized at my High School, I’ve managed to develop new networking skills with the principle of never working alone and achieving together. Another thing that stands out about my experience at Swarthmore is that I haven’t had the chance yet to operate once again under a cynical mindset, everybody is so nice here. I’ve learned to trust people again!

Senior: The education that you receive here is definitely unbeatable. The campus is also a generally fun place to be. It is really competitive so that permeates the culture quite a bit, which I could do without. The university’s commitment to diversity and inclusion is lacking, but they are making steps to change that going forward so I hope that there will be more positive steps in that area. You don’t really get a sense of the local area because the campus is so large it really dominates the city of Ann Arbor. So, even when you venture out in the city a bit, it still feels like you’re on campus. It’s just very much a college town, so if you’re into that, you’ll love it!

University of Rochester

12 Best Colleges for Education in America

Sophomore: The University of Rochester is excellent academically, and has a beautiful campus with generally great professors who wish to challenge their students to think and learn. Food is decent, dorm rooms are not so great. The flooring in rooms that I’ve seen is tile and the walls are white painted cement, but freshman housing has pretty large open doubles which can be rearranged if you don’t like the set up. Singles in the upperclassmen halls are tiny, probably not recommendable for anyone who gets claustrophobic easily, though there is housing slightly off campus that has much larger rooms as well as carpet which can be used after sophomore year. Overall my experience has been generally good though. The classes have been engaging and taught by dedicated professors. The people are generally friendly and great, I’ve made tons of friends so far and keep making more every semester. Overall the UofR is a great school with great people.

St. Olaf College

21 Best Colleges for Education in America

Freshman: St. Olaf College is the perfect fit for anyone in any field of interest who also wants an amazing liberal arts education. With a small, family-like campus, it seems everyone here loves St. Olaf with a passion! The food is ranked among the best in the US, and that barely compares to the college’s superior quality of education. The faculty and professors are all extremely qualified in their fields and are all very helpful in making sure everyone has a successful education.

University of Miami

22 Best Colleges for Education in America

Freshman: I am a freshman at the University of Miami studying biomedical engineering and I love it! The campus is beautiful and there are so many things to get involved in. Students are all hardworking and care about each other. There are so many resources for help with classes, such as free tutoring by students. The local area is nice but you cannot really get anywhere by walking, so most students have cars. Also, not many students live on campus after freshman year. Overall, I have had a great experience so far

Ohio State University

23 Best Colleges for Education in America

Sophomore: Why go to Ohio State? How do I even begin?? Not only are the academics incredible, but campus feels like home. Throughout my senior year, a plethora of people would ask “but aren’t you afraid you’ll feel like a number?”, but the answer is no, and I probably never will feel that way. As buckeyes we are all linked together. We all dislike Michigan, we all love the great state of Ohio (even if you’re not from here you’ll grow to love it to), and we all worked hard to get where we are. Campus is home. Beyond these facets of campus culture, nothing can describe the amazing feeling of the shoe on game day, or campus as a whole a week before the Michigan game. With all of that said, classes will push you hard and academics aren’t easy. But, the professors genuinely care about your well-being. All in all, OSU has something to offer for everyone!

University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

24 Best Colleges for Education in America

Alum: UNC Chapel Hill – the name rings familiarity across the nation. A part of one of the biggest college basketball rivals, a leader in NC healthcare, and known for the specificity of “Carolina blue,” UNC is a treasure. Nostalgia hits me every time I return: the campus is beautiful, the students are all on their way to achieving greatness, and the professors genuinely care about what goes on in their the students’ minds. Diversity is not that high – as probably 60% of the students want to become doctors and nurses. The racial diversity is representative of the statistics in America. The culture diversity, however, is rather high and incorporating of all activities that I can think of. Overall, a fantastic institution!
